Vintage C & H Sugar Thanksgiving Store Display 1960s

My friend came into the shop a few weeks ago and said, "I'm cleaning out  my basement and found something that might be good for your window display."

She dragged in one of these adorable vintage grocery store displays!

I was smitten in an instant and said, "Uh, that needs to go to my house! I want them all!" and I went to her car and put them all directly in my van! They didn't even get a chance to be displayed at the shop! 

I think they were meant to be hung from the ceiling because the graphics are on both sides and there is a hole at the top for hanging. They are die-cut all the way around the perimeter of the children so that the children could be turned at a right angle to the teepee. That way when it was hung, it could be seen from all angles as it spun in the air. (Does that make sense?)

These are about 6' feet tall with the top attached so they would have made a huge statement hung from the ceiling down the baking aisle at the store along with those ginormous honeycomb pumpkins! 

The colors are so bright and cheerful!

And the graphics of the children are adorable,

 even if they aren't politically correct in today's world.

The artwork is very familiar to me, like it was possibly done by someone who also worked for Hallmark Cards back in the day. It almost has a Pete Hawley vibe, but not quite exactly.

My friend had stored them in her basement for years and there is some water damage to all of them. :(

These are the separate little pieces that get stuck to the top of each Teepee, like sticks coming out.

Here is where the advertising logo was placed. 

If anyone can identify the artist, I would be thrilled to know. Not sure how I will display these. I may cut away the damaged teepees and just hang the pilgrims and indians. Any suggestions??

A few Thrifting goodies

Every time I get home from Thrifting or G'sale-ing I say to myself' "I'm gonna blog these finds" and then weeks go by and I haven't done it! Well, today's the day. 

This is just the tip of the iceburg. Check out that cool green FEZ! You never know when you'll need a fez!

Its been a pretty good summer for finds. Hubs graciously followed the road signs to a Senior Center sale. It was the 2nd day...Boo. I hate it when I miss the first day. :( But I still found a few holiday goodies and 1/2 price too.

I filled a small box with ornaments and got a suprise when I got home...If you look closely at the wooden Christmas tree above you'll notice a $1 bill tightly rolled and stuck in there! I paid a quarter for the tree AND the dollar. I like when that happens.

This mercury glass cross was really unusual. The Christmas dog wearing the crown was not old, but was too cute to pass up! Plus, it combines my two favorite things: Dogs and Christmas! :)

I got two adorable vintage magnet signs from Goodwill.

 I  usually call it the "Good-won't" or the "BAd-will" because I NEVER find vintage there. And they had them priced at only $2 each! They must have a new mgr.

 I love these cute graphics!

Homework CUTENESS!

I got these "Dick and Jane" alphabet board books for 1/2 price when I was visiting my sister in Escondido. 

There is a book for each letter of the alphabet.

Super cute letter-appropriate graphics on each page!

Each book has 4 "pages" so that means I have almost 100 letters in total. These books will be taken apart to make signs. I can't wait to do it!

Here are some spun head picks. Hubs and I took a day trip to St. Charles and stepped into the most over-priced antique store ever! I reluctantly asked how much these were and after studying them for at least HALF AN HOUR, she said, "A dollar a piece." I bought them because #1: They are so adorable and #2: Laurie over at Magpie Ethel had me jonesing for them. 

See the two little spun heads inside the ornaments? Those only cost me 25c each a week later at the Senior sale. : /

I found these two big-eyed Lee prints on vacation in Wisconsin, $3 ea.

This isn't a very good photo but these vintage animal prints were 25c each at my neighbors g'sale. 11x14 inches of pure smiles, suitable for framing! 

Found these two wonderful bauble bracelets in a bag of kid junk and wore them to church Sunday. They are so fun, they remind me of candy! Huh, well I guess that would make them ARM-candy. :)

Easter Decorations 04/21/14

I collect vintage baby planters and alot of them tend to be lambs. So I have a collection of lambs. It was an accident. I didn't mean to have a collection of lamb planters, it just happened. So it fits to display them at Easter.

This planter is actually for Easter. I like that.

I have a few of this type of lamb. But one of my favs is the little duck under an umbrella. 

He makes me smile. :)

I bought that turquoise deer around Christmas. I know he's got nothing to do with Easter, but he looks so relaxed among the lamby-pies.

Here is an old tin rabbit and cart carrying...Baby Jesus. Christmas seems to sneak in to all my decor, no matter what the season.

This cute duck is two syrofoam balls in a nylon sock! So clever, I want to try making one of my own.  It has a Japan sticker on the bottom.

Last fall I got this great corner cabinet at a g-sale for $20. 

Its perfect for displays.

I almost left this crafty styrofoam bunny at the rummage sale but 

I was smitten with his plaid vest.

This is the only beaded egg I've ever found. It is so pretty!

I'm not sure but I think this glittered egg is a Christmas ornament.

Left to right: A chalkware chick, a plastic rattle rooster, a chenille and pom duck and a spun cotton chick (MY FAV!) breaking out of his pink shell!

Check this out! A real live (dead) taxidermied CHICK! I got this in a lot of other vintage Easter decorations in a shoebox. I love him even though its kinda twisted to think he gave up his life to become a symbol of new life.

What's cuter than flocked styrofoam chicks wearing party hats? I love the satin ball bunny peeking over from behind them.

You can't see this very well but its a 1960's hat covered with velvet millinery posies! :)
